Come Jump with ME!

Jumping rope is one of the most simple and effective ways to start working the weight off. Holiday time is here and it is easy to pack on a quick 10lbs just between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Years parties. That said, I have uploaded a quick 10 minute workout that you can follow along with. All you need is a jump rope but if you don't have one you can do jumping jacks and still reap the benefits of this workout.  I have broken it down into ten 30 second rounds of work, with 30 seconds recovery between each round. This is a simple beginner to intermediate level workout.
If you want to crank up the intensity then change up the type of jumping you are doing. I will record a more intense jump rope workout in the very near future.

Guideline Pro: Beard liner template Product Review

As you guys know, I do product reviews here and there. This is another example of such. Today's review is for the Guideline Pro Beard Liner Template.  I'll keep this one short and simple.
Price- 12.99
Ease of use- Not too bad, but it is pretty awkard to hold a razor to your face and shave while holding the template in perfect position to keep your line straight. I did think it worked better with my electric razor though.
Quality of product- The template is made of a light flexible plastic. I did have an issue with the ink on the template disappearing though, probably from the oil or shaving cream dissolving it.

Would I buy it if it wasn't free- Hmm, it serves a purpose. Probably not though. Just being honest, I already free hand my beard and I feel like I still have to free hand at times even with the template. However, I've only used it about 3 times, maybe with more practice I will get better at it and appreciate it a bit more. If that is the case, I will update this statement.

Here is the product description per the company

Product Description

GuideLine Pro is a beard grooming template. Which allows a razor or beard trimmer, to command the level of precision and symmetry, you could expect from a professional barber.
  • EXTREMELY SIMPLE Although the design looks simplistic. Each element. Such as GuideLines unique non-slip shape. Or it's easy to follow numbering system. Was designed to perform a specific function. Resulting in an unbelievably natural beard shaping template.

Product Review: Credit Card Knife | Best Folding Hunting Knife by SnR Star

My review of the credit card knife by SNR Star

First let me start off by saying, I received this product at a discounted price in return for my review.
Initially when I saw this concept I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Then I saw it was selling for under 9.99 and I thought man you can't beat that. However once I received the product I wished the plastic would have been of a better thickness. It feels like one wrong move while trying to assemble it and you could probably snap the blade from the plastic backing.

I do feel like the design is pretty cool though and for light use I think it does the trick. I have noticed however that there are other variations of this credit card knife concept that are a bit more durable.
For example the Boker Plus credit card knife, however this one is going to run you closer to $30.00.

Like I said, it comes down to what are your plans for it. If you want a knife that you can use everyday or maybe in a self defense situation then I don't think this is the one you want. However, if you want something you can use for opening letters/packages then this is will do the job.

Below are more details of the product. And be sure to click the video above for my full review.

Price: 9.99

Let's call this one "FAT LOSS 101"

The first thing I hear from most people when they hire me to train them is that they want to lose weight. While this is good, I find a more ideal goal is to decrease body fat and to increase muscle mass. I say this because two people can weigh the same weight but have body compositions that are completely different. And though you can't control the height you were born with you can affect your body fat percentage.

That being said, let's talk a little about body fat.  Above is a chart of the agreed upon standards for bodyfat according to age, and gender.  There are a number of ways to calculate your body fat but for the lay person all we really care about is the eye ball test. How do I look with my clothes on or with my clothes off, especially if it is SUMMERTIME AKA BIKINI SEASON! Below are some figures are various body fat levels so you can compare yourself to the different figures to get a rough estimate into which group you below.

It is important to note that while being 3-4% B.F seems like a good goal if you are a man or 15% or below if you are a woman, it is extremely hard on the body to stay still lean for any extended period of time. Body builders and fitness models typically peak to these levels for their photoshoot/competition and even this is achieved by limiting water intake and manipulating their bodies through carb depletion.  Hormonal levels can be negatively affected and multiple health issues may arise as well.

So back to the Majority of Society: I just want to look better than I do now!

There are two ways to achieve that better body: Diet and Exercise

I'll start with exercise. If you are not exercising START! It doesn't have to be Insanity for you to start seeing results. Start at 10-15minutes of activity and gradually increase until you can do a half hour to an hour. Not everyone can go balls to the wall like I do so you have to know your lane and stay in it. But with time and consistency you will get better.  I recommend not just CARDIO but WEIGHTLIFTING AS WELL. Afterall, you want to increase the lean muscle on your body. And carrying more muscle makes your metabolism work harder to sustain it thus aiding in fat loss. We have all seen those marathon runners who are in great shape but look like if you pluck them too hard they will fall apart. Though they don't have the body fat some look fragile which I do not feel is an ideal look either. Or you see the runners who do cardio cardio cardio but still appear skinny fat.
Again, the goal is to strive for balance. So as I said, make sure you are doing both and when I say weightlifting, bodyweight exercises qualify as well. Pushups, Bodysquats, Burpees, Mountain climbers are all great.

Now we dive into the hard part. Diet! If you are like me you can workout and workout but it is fighting the cookies, cakes, and pies which is the hard part. Here is where good habits come in. My 1st recommendation is to get it out of the house. You will not win over your temptation. No matter how long you deny it, the second you stay up past 11pm, those cravings will attack you and you will give in.  Start loading the house with healthy substitutes. Fresh in season fruit are great options. Frozen fruit can be a good candy deterant as well.  If you like chips and crackers try substituting with nuts, air pop popcorn and/or rice cakes.  Is soda your weakness, try mineral water mixed with agave nectar.  I address this first because most people know to avoid the fast food, but it is the snack cravings that bring them down.
As far as healthy eating...there are so many ways to skin that cat. Try to avoid starchy foods as much as possible instead indulge on protein, healthy fat, and fiberous carbs.

Better eating habits mixed with increase workload will definitely lead you to lower body fat percentages. Just remember, it takes time and consistency. You didn't gain weight overnight so you won't become beachbody ready overnight.

Your healthier soda alternative

Product Review: NonaActive JumpRope

PRODUCT REVIEW: NonaActive Jump Rope

Today's review comes courtesy of the NonaActive. They sent me a jump rope package which included a frisbee and a book of skipping songs for kids!  I thought this was a nice touch considering the kids obesity problem we have in this country. Though must kids will probably see this and only use it one or two times, it's still a good way to draw interest into the the frisbee and jump rope.

The jumprope has soft handles and is pretty light weight. Everything seems to be well made but
nothing extra special as relates to the equipment. Honestly, I looked through the book of songs one time and don't even know where the frisbee is currently located. However, I use the jump rope about every other day either for myself or with one of my clients.

In my opinion, jumping rope is a great low impact way to get in shape and lose a little weight.  These are currently retailing for $10.99 which isn't bad in my opinion. Especially considering that you get a frisbee and a book of songs that you can use with your kid or kids.  If interested, here is the link to the amazon vendor Jump rope link

So in conclusion, if you can find  a cheaper durable jump rope by all means get it! But, if you can't then this one is a good value as well. Nothing special about it, but you do get a few additions that you may or may not find useful.

RIMSports Ankle Strap: Product Review

RIMSports Ankle Strap: Product Review

So I got another package in the mail to review. This time it was the RIMSports Ankle Straps. Upon opening the package I noticed two straps were included.  I was hoping they would have included some carabiners as well but it was just the straps.

I did like the color of the ankle straps though. They were black with the letters highlighted in hot pink. Most times, ankle straps are used by women so I thought this was pretty appropriate. Though, I had been trying to make it to the gym to use these with one of my clients, scheduling conflicts and vacations delayed my review of this product.  Instead of using the gym though, I decided to hook them up to my resistance bands.
These bands were easy to hook up, and my client thought they were comfortable as well. Below is a quick snippet of her using the ankle straps. I put her through a glute and hamstring workout on this day. With the resistance, her legs were instantly burning! Thus, I'd say the ankle straps achieved the desired result.

If you are in the market for some light weight equipment that is easy to slip into your gym bag, then I think these are a good addition.  They are currently being sold for $19.99 on amazon.

Healthy Soda Alternative! Easy to make and tastes good! 2 Ingredients!

Time and time again, I here the same thing. People tell me, "I hate drinking water, water is nasty!"
Then I ask them if they drink sodas, and they tell me yes. Some people tell me, that's all they drink. Sodas are high in Calories. For my example, we'll use a 12 oz can of Coca-cola.
We are talking 140 calories, of which 39grams of that is straight high fructose corn syrup which is high on the glycemic index and bad for your body in general  . On a 20oz bottle which some of you probably drink in one sitting. Check out the ingredient list.
Now let's contrast that with my alternative.
Click my video to see the difference

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

*I know there is some debate about whether agave nectar is healthy or not. If you choose to avoid it, you can substitute with STEVIA, HONEY, MAPLE SYRUP, and/or DATE SYRUP.  Be creative, with your recipes!
I've seen one with a little lemon juice, and strawberries blended together with sparkling water to make a delicious pink lemonade concoction.

What's in your water!?

The goal is to be Alkaline. Our bodies run well in the Alkaline state but disease, cancers, etc... develop when we are acidic. Lately, my wife and I have been studying Dr. Sebi alot lately. If you are not on Dr. Sebi, he was the Dr. that Lisa " Left Eye" Lopez was visiting prior to her untimely death.

Now, I'm not selling any of his products nor am I affiliated with him, I am just promoting the eating style that he advises.  I have heard many testimonies of people who have lost significant amounts of weight 30lbs + without even exercising, just due to their diet change to the ALKALINE based diet.

That being said, one component of that is drinking lots of WATER. However, some of us may be sabotaging ourselves if the water we are drinking is severely ACIDIC.

That said, watch this video. And if you are a DASANI water drinker, or AQUAFINA, then leave that mess alone and put it back on the shelf!

Hope this helps someone!!! Have a BEAUCOUPFIT DAY!!!

Product Review-The TripleBooster - A Powerful 3 Ports USB Car Charger 7.2A 36W With 2.4A On Each Port. Comes with 3 USB Cables For iPhone 4/5/6, Android, PSP,Camera etc. Also Comes With a Cloth Bag, All in One Set!

Only 14.90 on Amazon now you can charge your 3 of your cell phones and/ or other small accessories at the same time.  The chargers work well and come in handy especially if you are headed out of the house but didn't get a chance to get that final charge in. Here's a link to the product in the event you are interested in buying

So far so good. I like the ability to charge 3 different devices at one time. There is not much I can say that the other reviewers haven't said. The portability and convenience of use rank this product really high in my book. I use it to charge my Samsung Galaxy S4 and my Samsung Galaxy notebook.
This is a good little charger to have if you are ever on the go or if you forgot to charge your phone the night or day before work. So far everything is holding up well. Hope to get many years of use out of it.

Product Review-EatSmart Precision 550 Bathroom Scale

Product Review-EatSmart Precision 550 Bathroom Scale

Recently, I received the Eat Smart Precision 550 Bathroom Scale and my first impression was wow! Not to sound mushy but it was the best looking scale I had ever seen. Even my two children (4 and 1 years old) were anxious to step on it. The scale is run off of 3 AAA batteries and yields a digital read out.

Personally, I am no where near 500lbs but if you are on the heavier side this scale can accomodate you as well. It has a weight capacity of 550lbs which gives a wide range of potential users.

As I mentioned in my intro, aesthetically it is very attractive to the eyes so there is no need to hide it once your finished using it. You can proudly display your scale in the bathroom and it will not take away from the look of the room.

This scale is selling for $39.95 on amazon. They also have a bunch of different models available that are a little cheaper in cost but in my opinion this one is worth it.  Here's a link in the event you are interested in buying one

Other features:
It has an automatic on/off function.
It can be configured for kg/ or lbs
It has a large platform
It has a large digital display

Here are a few product facts about the Eat Smart Precision 550 Bathroom Scale from the companies advertisment.

  • - 550 lb capacity - HIGHEST IN THE CONSUMER MARKET (.2 lb increments) and Lb/kg switchable - 250kg
    - When weight locks in, scale will beep allowing user to step off and have an easy view of the readout
    - Large 3.7" LCD display w/ blue backlight - easy to read from any distance or angle
    - 3 x AAA batteries included in package
    - As with all EatSmart scales, the Precision 550 includes our 100% satisfaction guarantee and two-year warranty.

Fitness Answered Resistance Bands-Review

Below is my video review of the product.
I typically train at the practice track at a local park and when I broke these out one of the more seasoned boot camp owners immediately inquired about them!!! These bands look good though, I think they sell themselves especially if you have used bands before. They are a great asset if you like to use multiple stations or prefer equipment that multiple people can use while stll being portable and light weight.

My intent is to start using these bands in a manner similar to Coach Kelvin. This guy is an awesome trainer and his use of resistance training is awesome!

I believe these bands are of great enough quality as well as resistance to enhance my current workout scheme and I can't wait to make this vision a reality.

*Once again, my review was conducted in return for receiving these bands at a free or reduced rate. My thoughts and opinions are mine alone and are 100% my feelings about this product.*

Fitness Answered Suspension Trainer - Review

I'm all about getting good equipment for cheap prices. I'm an independent mobile personal trainer so I like to give my clients variety of workouts but
as we all know $$$ can add up quickly. The Suspension Fitness Bands by Fitness Answered are another set of products that you can add to the tool bag but won't exactly break the bank either.

I've put them through a few workouts now and so far so good. I have experience with the TRX brand, the WOSS brand, and now these.
It's been a good while since I've used the TRX straps so I won't comment directly on those however vs. the WOSS brand, I will say that these seem to be manufactured a bit better. For instance, on the foot straps, these are actually lined with a bit of cushioning that just makes them a little more comfortable. Additionally, the Fitness Answered straps include the notches which indicate the correct height placement to keep your straps even when you adjust them from position to position. And though, I don't use the suspension trainers at my home, the attachment used to secure you straps to the door seems less likely to damage your door than the ones from the other brand.

Thus, if you are in the market for a set of suspension trainers but have questions about which ones to get, I recommend this brand.
Though they seem like a newer company, I have used there Battle Ropes, and Resistance Bands and all are living up to my expectations so far.

They can be found here:

You can see video of my review and usage below

Disclaimer: I did receive my trainers at either a reduced rate or free in return for my unbiased honest review.

Fitness Answered Battle Rope Product Review

Battle Ropes by Fitness Answered Training

I've said it once and I'll say it again, I love love love, receiving new equipment to test out and try out with my clients! Earlier this week was no exception when I received my Battle Ropes in the mail from Fitness Answered. My first thought upon opening the package was that they really did a good job of wrapping the Battle Ropes and making everything look nice and neat. The Battle ropes were bound together by two smaller ropes which kept the battle ropes organized. I was also impressed with the weight of these ropes. It was obvious I had just made a major SCORE!!!

Initial observations out of the way it was time to put the ropes to the test.

I had a client that evening about 2pm, and he was use to doing battle rope exercises however, I typically use an old fire hose which I formulated into a "battle rope." When he saw this one he was instanty impressed. After all, the black on red design looks pretty sweet and the heavy red rubber handles definitely make these ropes look attractive. We proceeded to have a great interval workout for about an hour. At the end of the workout, there were no frayed edges or anything that would make me think this rope will not last. The rope measures 40' by 1.5 in diameter. The material according to their advertisement is "100% Poly Dacron, Wear Resistant and Durable 3-Strand Twisted PolyDac Strong Construction 600D Oxford Waterproof Sleeve Protect the Rope from Friction and Fray Heat Shrink 3M Caps on the Ends, Heavy and Appressed High Tensile Strength"

Twenty to thirty second intervals with these ropes will be a pretty good workout for the average person. And the beauty of the battle ropes are that you can get a great total body cardio workout in without having to run anywhere!!! That being said, I liked my battle ropes so much I am thinking about getting another set. I did receive my battle ropes at a discounted price in return for my honest review. Thanks for reading..
